Reduce your risk for breast cancer by adopting these healthy habits.
Reaching and maintaining a healthy weight reduces your risk. Tweak sedentary hobbies and ramp up weight loss. To spend less time sitting on the sofa reading, download audio books to listen to while you’re on the move. Watch binge-worthy shows at the gym while on the elliptical, bike or treadmill.
Join the healthy plate club.
Plan menus featuring seasonal produce, lean protein, whole grains and dairy. Try healthy recipes found online or available at your local farmers market or grocery store.
Rethink your habits.
If you are a smoker, find another stress-reliever, such as meditation. Also, limit how much alcohol you consume — one drink for women or two drinks for men daily. Choose drinks with less sugar and fewer calories, such as red wine (about 125 calories per glass) versus 12 ounces of lager (175 calories) or a 4-ounce cosmopolitan (213 calories).
Schedule screening exams.
Make the most of your annual wellness exam and learn when to schedule routine screenings, such as mammograms, colonoscopies, or blood sugar and cholesterol tests.
